Appreciating your help
Dear editor:
On behalf of the Vernon County Senior Center Board, I would like to thank the many individuals who helped us organize the recent Medicare Prescription Drug Card Program held at the Neal Center.
Thanks especially to Steve Moyer, Chuck Nash and the Nevada Daily Mail, Russ Warren and KNEM/KNMO for helping us get the word out; Carol Branham and Wade Wooley for helping with the organization; Earl Ackley and all the Senior Center volunteers for answering phone calls and serving a great lunch; Nancy Kavanaugh, our speaker, and Care Connection Services for the program; Coldwell Banker Curtis and Sons for providing the printed handouts; all of our local pharmacies for helping with the drug card information and thanks, too, to the many businesses who let us post flyers and helped distribute information sheets.
The Pharmacy Drug Card is a wonderful program for seniors and any senior who was unable to attend the program and would like information is encouraged to call the Vernon County Senior Center at (417) 667-5847.

Now is not the time
Dear editor:
I remember as a youth reading dime novels about some smooth-talking well-dressed man who would ride into a town. In time he would get everyone to listen to him, and the people would start to believe in this person.
As time went on, this man would start to change as he felt he was gaining power over these people. He would intimidate or push people into his way of thinking. Eventually, the people of this town would give in to the power of this person because they felt they had no other choice.
I feel we have a man that is wanting to run for city council who has a past a lot like the man in this story. At one time, he was profitable businessman; however, time has changed him and his tactics.
I don't feel that now is the time to allow this person on the city council, or we could end up being just like the people in the story.
It's a fictitious story, but it could turn into reality for us if we vote him onto our city council.
Steve Hilt
Nevada
Editor's note: The Daily Mail also received a letter in support of city council candidate Joe Kraft; however, the letter was signed "a very concerned citizen." No name of its author was provided.
