Vernon Lee Guss
Vernon Lee Guss, 64, Fort Scott, Kan., died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin. He was born March 28, 1940, in Nevada, the son of Albert Lee Guss and Ruby Medley Guss. He married Katherine E. Stewart on Nov. 3, 1957, at Fort Scott.
He served with the Kansas Army National Guard. He worked as an officer with the Fort Scott Police Department for 13 years. Later he was employed by Key Work Clothes. He also operated his own catering business.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine, of the home; three sons, Stewart Guss, Bruce Guss, and Roy Guss, all of Fort Scott; a daughter, Elaine Guss, Fort Scott; a brother, Larry Guss, Fort Scott; a half-brother, Eddie Guss, Branson; and a half-sister, Debbie Guss, California. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Ann Martin; and an infant son, Ronald Eugene Guss.
The Rev. A.F. Collins will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 7, at the Grace Baptist Tabernacle in Fort Scott, Kan. Burial will follow in the Bronson Cemetery, Bronson, Kan. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
