Nevada Daily Mail
The little-known but surprisingly large roles of black soldiers in the War Between The States, and of blacks and whites together in today's Confederate heritage activities, will be the subjects of the annual Heritage Dinner to be held April 9 in Osceola by the Col. John T. Coffee Camp No. 1934 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
The Camp's last Heritage Dinner, held in Nevada, was heavily attended.
H.K. Edgerton, Asheville N,C, a nationally known black speaker, will present the program and answer questions.
The dinner and program will follow a 5 to 6 p.m. social hour.
Edgerton's extensive activities and achievements include: student regent of the University of Minnesota; co-ownership of Edgerton and Edgerton Office Products; resident futurist intern, Green Giant Co.; spokesman for trucking and construction companies; special projects consultant for energy and development projects; chairman, board of advisors, Southern Legal Resource Center, Inc.; chairman, Heritage Preservation Association; etc.
The Heritage Dinner will be held at the First Assembly of God Church in Osceola. Admission, including dinner, is $15. Tickets and further information are available locally from Frank Carlton, (417) 667-0632, or Patrick Brophy, (417) 667-9602 weekdays or (417) 667-7108.
The Coffee Camp of the SCV is headquartered in Stockton, but has members in Vernon and all adjoining counties, and frequently meets in Nevada.
The SCV is a national nonpolitical organization devoted to celebrating and commemorating the valor and honor of the ordinary Confederate soldier.
