The Nevada Tigers boys and girls track teams both finished second at the Seventh Annual Nevada Invitational Saturday.
The boys had 142 points, just 11 points behind Joplin. The girls earned 112 points, 43 shy of Clinton.
Both teams were competing in five-team fields, as El Dorado Springs and Bronaugh both joined Joplin and Clinton as visitors to Nevada.
On a cold and blustery day, it was a chore just to warm up for all the athletes involved.
Mark Reed, Alberto Padilla. Harrison Gage and the 4x100-meter relay team were able to warm up enough to give the boys victories in a few events, and Amanda Wilson, Veronica Mosier and Jessica Ferree did the same for the girls.
Reed won the 800 meters in a time of 2 minutes, 13.24 seconds.
Padilla swept the two hurdles events, winning the 110 meters in 17.72 seconds and the 300 meters in 47.19.
Gage won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 1 inch.
Eric Atkinson, Ryan Watts, Blake Sanderson and Gage teamed up to win the relay, finishing with a time of 47.29 seconds.
Wilson won the girls discus, throwing 96 feet, 10 inches. She also was second in the shot put.
Mosier won two events, the triple jump and the long jump. In the triple jump Mosier went 34 feet, 0.5 inches. She cleared 15 feet, 1.5 inches in the long jump, tying her for first with Jessica Langford of Bronaugh.
Mosier won the event on a tiebreaker.
Ferree won the 300-meter hurdles, finishing in a time of 57.99 seconds. She was second in the 110-meter hurdles.
The track team is in action again Thursday when they travel to Carthage for a meet.
Saturday was the only home meet for the Nevada varsity team.
