Response to 'Pros and Cons'
Dear editor:
As a member of a faith-based coalition, i.e. a born again Christian who votes, I am compelled to respond to some of the points made by Richard Carpenter (Nevada Daily Mail, April 27). Terri Schiavo was a woman who was allowed to starve to death and her only crime was being disabled. Millions of innocent babies have been murdered in their mother's wombs since Roe vs. Wade and their only crime was being inconvenient. Mr. Carpenter is "not in favor of the dramatic increase in the use of the death penalty in America" because of 15 cases.
He "cannot in good conscience take the chance of killing an innocent person ..." except when they are disabled or in their mother's way and cannot speak for themselves.
Too bad for Terri -- she should have been on Death Row for murder (but not for bombing abortion clinics). I'm sure we would have heard an outcry from Carpenter on her behalf.
There is a "sole Judge" and He is Jesus Christ and He will judge the personal beliefs of each of us. I'm going to practice my beliefs the way Jesus has instructed, and I'm going to stay out of Carpenter's personal affairs. But because my husband's grandparents and Carpenter's grandparents were very good friends, I will pray for him at least once.
Thank you for giving him and me an outlet for our opinions.

Bonds deserves more respect
Dear editor,
I am a 17-year-old young man and also a huge fan of Barry Bonds. In a recent article written by Kelly Bradham on Barry Bonds he hounded on Bonds for lying, cheating and breaking the law.
Let's not forget -- since this Major League Baseball season started, about 10 professional baseball players have been suspended for steroid use.
Isn't that lying, cheating and breaking the law? Those players aren't hounded on because they haven't hit 700 homeruns or haven't been a member of the 500-500 club.
How does anyone out there know if Roger Maris, Hank Aaron or Ted Williams weren't on steriods?
Barry Bonds made a mistake and has admitted it. The substance he used was not even on the banned substance list.
Bonds is hated only because he might not talk to the media; is that such a big deal? Babe Ruth, David Wells would drink beer before baseball games. Lets see a write-up about that. Barry Bonds will go down in history as the greatest player of all time.
I do feel sorry for him, the stuff he puts up with like Bradham's article is amazing.
Barry Bonds will be the Homerun King and will never give up on his quest to be the best.
People need to stop dogging on Barry Bonds, and look at him as the greatest baseball player ever.
