Lockwood, Gullett second in conference tennis

Nevada Tigers Justdan Lockwood and Adam Gullett both placed second in their singles brackets and the teams of Derek Fast-Gullett and Taylor Hall-Lockwood followed suit at the Southwest Conference tennis tournament Tuesday.
Lockwood came from behind to win his first-round match, 5-7, 6-0, 7-5, defeating a Webb City opponent in number-four singles. Lockwood then fell to a Neosho opponent in the championship, 6-1, 6-1.
Gullett followed a similar route, beating a Webb City player in the first round, 7-5, 6-3, before losing to a Neosho player 6-1, 6-0 in number-five singles.
In other singles play, Fast lost both matches in the number-one bracket, 6-0, 6-3 against Neosho and 6-0, 6-4 against Carthage.
Ryan Kimbrough also lost twice in number-two singles, 6-3, 6-3 to Neosho and 6-2, 6-4 to Carthage.
Ed Horst finished third in number-three singles, losing to Webb City 6-2, 6-3, before beating Carthage 6-2, 6-2.
Taylor Hall wrapped up singles play, falling in the first-round 6-1, 6-4, before winning third place against Carthage 7-6 (7-1), 6-3.
In doubles play the team of Kimbrough and Horst lost both matches in the number-one bracket.
Fast and Gullett won their fist match but lost in the championship in number-two doubles to a team from Neosho.
Lockwood and Hall did the same, winning their first match but losing to Neosho in the title match in number-three doubles.
The tennis team is at Clinton today, and they host Webb City Tuesday before the district tournament May 13-14.
