Tiger golf wraps up
Nevada Herald
The Southwest Conference golf tournament was the last chance for the Nevada Tigers to compete in golf for the 2005 season.
The tournament, held at Elk River Golf Club in Noel, featured all five conference teams, with powers such as Neosho, Carthage and Webb City in attendance.
The three favorites did not disappoint, as Carthage edged Webb City for the conference crown, shooting a nine-hole team total of 303, four shots better then the second place Cardinals.
Nevada and McDonald County were playing for pride against each other, with McDonald County shooting 381, just beating Nevada by two strokes to stay out of the conference basement.
Neosho finished with a team score of 319.
The Tigers had a solid round by their standards this season. Justin Crooks shot a respectable 91 to lead Nevada, while Zach Braucher was not far behind carding a 94.
David Cavener was the third Nevada golfer, shooting a 97.
The other two Tigers were unable to break 100, as Branden Scism shot 101 and Sam Moore finished with 106.
Individually, Webb City's Steve Smith was the medalist with a 3-under-par 69. Only Carthage's Deric McClellan was able to join Smith under par with a 1-under 71.
Carthage had three of the top five individuals, while Webb City had the other two.
