2005 Turkey Season results

The 2005 Turkey Season results for the Spring were recently released by the Missouri Conservation Department. There were 53,798 total turkeys reported, either by TeleCheck or at check stations.
The record, set last year, was 56,882.
Vernon County saw an increase from 464 birds taken last year, to 579 taken this year. In Vernon County 281 birds were taken to check stations and 298 were called in.
In area counties: Bates reported 743 birds checked. There were 466 taken to check stations and 277 called in.
St. Clair reported 867 birds taken. Of those, 596 were taken to stations and 271 were called in.
In Cedar County 269 birds were called in, 400 were taken to stations for a total of 669.
In Barton there were 452 birds reported. They were split almost evenly with 225 called in and 227 taken to check stations.
Statewide 33,341 turkeys were taken to stations while 20,457 were called in.
The previous years totals statewide are: 54,781 in 2003; 53,932 in 2002; 55,302 in 2001; and 56,841 in 2000.
There were six non-fatal hunting accidents in the state this season and one fatal accident.
