Gas found at Rich Hill

At a depth of less than 400 feet the prospect drill of Mr. Brown, who is drilling for the Rich Hill Development Co., on the C.C. McGennis land, about 5 miles west of town, encountered a good flow of as in about 40 feet of gas sand, says the Review of Saturday. The quality of the gas is the same as that found in the Kansas field and the quantity deemed about on par with that in the Hume well, but whether this will be sufficient for more than ordinary domestic use remains to be tested.

Boy Scout training pays off

First aid training learned in Scouting came in handy for Delvin Chubick, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Chubick, Rt. 2, Nevada, late Saturday afternoon when a pal of his, Richard Murray, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard R. Murray, 324 South Tucker, suffered a serious foot injury.

Richard was mowing a lawn on South Main Street when his foot became caught in the power mower severing two tendons. The foot was bleeding profusely and Delvin took off his belt and used it as a tourniquet to stop the flow of blood.

A passing motorist from Joplin rushed the Murray boy to the hospital where he received treatment. He will be unable to use his foot for several weeks.
