Nevada Speedway report -- June 25

The cars were flying Saturday night! Saturday's action produced four first time Feature winners for the season: Modified was Trey Todd; Street Stock was Curt Drake; Factory Stock was Foxie Sumner and Mini Stock was Brandon Leer. The most excited of all was Foxie Sumner for in all the years he has raced he has never won a Feature. More excitement is on tap for next week with our 73rd Birthday Special, Firecracker 40-lap Late Model $1,000 to win and our 4th of July Fireworks display. Nobody will want to miss all this action. Join us each and every week this year at the biggest little race track in the country to catch all the action.
Late Model heat race winners were Rusty Skaggs, Fort Scott, Kan., and Bill Humble Jr., Rich Hill. Kenny Shaw got the lead at the start of the Feature. Skaggs quickly passed him. A yellow flag flew as Jerry Morgan spun. Skaggs was in the lead for the restart and never looked back as he claimed the win, his second of the season.
Modified heat race winners were Brian Hall, Fort Scott, Kan., and Kevin Morrow, Nevada. Trey Todd got the lead at the start of the Feature then got sideways allowing Tony Palmer to gain the lead. Todd regained the lead with Morrow on his bumper. Morrow tried low and high, got beside Todd and they got together ripping the side from Todd's car but both kept racing. A yellow flew for parts in the track and closed the field behind Todd for the restart. Todd had his bumper full with Morrow trying to pass on the outside and Brantlee Gotschall trying for the lead on the inside of the track. Todd was holding them off when Morrow spun collecting Brian Hall and Bob Kerbs, which brought out another yellow. Todd held off both Gotschall and Kenneth Pike to collect the win, his first of the season.
Street Stock heat race winners were Curt Drake, Moran, Kan., and Doug Chrisenbery, Bronaugh. Drake got the lead at the start of the Feature. A yellow flew as cars bunched up and several went into the infield. Drake was in the lead for the restart. Just as the white flag was about to be displayed Doug Chrisenbery developed a flat tire, got sideways and collected Darren Dennison and Olin Wyland. This closed the field behind Drake for the restart. He got a good jump on the restart and collected the win, his first of the season.
Factory Stock heat race winners were Foxie Sumner, Nevada, and Dustin Wyland, Mulberry, Kan. Sumner got the lead at the start of the Feature. Lester Rhodes spun raising a big cloud of dust and Slade Williams narrowly avoided him by going through the infield. The yellow flew closing the field behind Sumner for the restart. Kyle Wiles went spinning after getting bumped which sent him into the infield. After several more cautions Sumner was still in the lead with Shawn Hendren on his bumper. Sumner was able to hold the lead, even after several taps from Hendren, to collect the win, his first of the season and his very first Feature win during his racing career.
Mini Stock heat race winners were Dewayne Applegate, Boliver, and Brandon Leer, Nevada. Robert Somers got the lead at the start of the Feature and quickly lost it to Applegate. James Barker went for a spin in the infield and got hit by Ben Beard, which brought out the yellow flag and closed the field behind Applegate for the restart. Another yellow flew as Floyd Weaver, Ed Coulter Jr. and Somers all spun. Applegate was in the lead for the restart with Brent Knight right on his bumper. Knight got a bump from Leer, which sent him spinning, and brought out the yellow flag. Applegate was again in the lead for the restart. With just one lap to go Mike Baxter got into the wall and the yellow again flew. Applegate led the field down to the green flag for the restart and finished first, however, he had been notified prior to the race that his car did not conform to the track rules, and Leer was awarded the win, his first of the season.
