Reception sparks memories, accolades

Last Monday, the College held a reception for Carolyn Sinn, honoring her 22 years at the college and her pending retirement on Dec. 1. One of the speakers was Keitha Bolander, who shared about teaching school in Walnut, Kan. and how she first met Carolyn when she was a little girl. In a special tribute, she presented Carolyn a pen made of walnut from Walnut, Kan.

JoAnn Thomas spoke of going to school with Carolyn and special times in Fort Scott as they began careers.

Jake Underwood, who spent 33 years as a business manager, talked about coming to the college to help Carolyn right after she was hired. It didn't take long for him to figure out that this was one smart lady.

Jack Gilmore's comments included the fact that he knew Carolyn at the Co-op before she even came to work at the college. As he reflected on her time here, there was never a doubt about her commitment to the institutiton and the financial integrity she brought to the college.

Jim Miesner commented that in every organization there are people we rely on for answers to questions -- and how she is always able to help.

In the past 22 years, Carolyn left a remarkable record of dedication and service to this college and community. She served as a city commissioner and as mayor, and throughout the years has dedicated her time and talent to numerous groups and organizations. It appears she has received another promotion and perhaps a higher calling, as she relates she will have more time to help with the grandkids. Based on what we have seen from her for two decades and two years, it will be a first class effort.
