Show me more, Simms
Somebody get the water quick, I'm burning up.
With my Week 14 picks I went 13-3, only losing San Diego, Oakland and Carolina. Nobody saw the Chargers game coming and the other two games involved closely matched teams that were surprisingly dominated (at least I was surprised) in convincing fashion.
Is it time for me to jump on the Chris Simms-Brooks Bollinger bandwagon?
Not yet.
Sure Simms has been impressive, but let's see him do it in New England in December. That's the quickest way to make me a believer. As for Bollinger, it was the Raiders we're talking about.
I received a bunch of flak locally for picking my Cowboys (correctly, I might add) over the Chiefs. I almost picked the score too, missing by one point. Don't worry Chiefs fans, I got your back this week.
Straight up I've gone 27-5 the past two weeks (yet I still can't seem to crack the local football pool). Of course, just when I start to get a little high on myself, I'll end up picking 10 losers this week. Just wait.
For the season I am now 142-73 straight up (.660 winning percentage). Against the spread I am exactly even money for the season after a 8-6-2 week. I'm now 99-99-7 using the Vegas lines. I think you know what that percentage is.
This week there are three Saturday games, but since this goes to print before the games begin, I'm still going to pick them.
Tampa Bay (+4.5) at New England
The Bucs are hot, but things have a way of cooling off in New England this time of year. Unless your name is Tom Brady.
Patriots 21, Buccaneers 17
Kansas City (+3) at New York Giants
We'll find out if the Chiefs are a playoff team. This week I like them to create turnovers against an inconsistent Eli Manning.
Chiefs 30, Giants 24
Denver (-9) at Buffalo
The Bills are done, the Broncos are not.
Broncos 27, Bills 12
Arizona (-1.5) at Houston
This week the Texans fumble the snap trying to down the ball in victory formation and the Cardinals return it for a touchdown as time expires.
Cardinals 21, Texans 20
Carolina (-9) at New Orleans
So, where are the Saints playing this week? Does it matter?
Panthers 24, Saints 16
New York Jets (+9) at Miami
The Dolphins are not that bad this season. Trust me Jets fans (both of you), Bollinger is not the answer.
Dolphins 17, Jets 13
Philadelphia (+3.5) at St. Louis
If a team wins in a stadium and there's nobody to see it, does it still count in the standings?
Rams 20, Eagles 18
Pittsburgh (-3) at Minnesota
The Steelers continue their march through NFC North competition.
Steelers 23, Vikings 21
San Diego (+7.5) at Indianapolis
Does anybody think that this Chargers team can beat this Colts team? Peyton Manning is no Gus Frerotte. He's much, much better.
Colts 35, Chargers 31
Seattle (-7) at Tennessee
The Seahawks could beat the Titans in their sleep. And they just might prove it this week. A Seattle win pretty much wraps up home-field advantage.
Seahawks 31, Titans 10
San Francisco (+15.5) at Jacksonville
Bad news for the Jags, Leftwich could be out for the season. Good news, with this schedule it won't matter.
Jaguars 24, 49ers 10
Cincinnati (-8) at Detroit
The oddsmakers have this under 10 because of what happened last week against the Browns. The Browns are much better than the Lions.
Bengals 28, Lions 17
Cleveland (+3) at Oakland
Remember what I said about the Browns? Remember what I said about the Raiders earlier?
Browns 21, Raiders 14
Dallas (+3) at Washington
This used to be the best rivalry in the league. Here's hoping it returns.
Cowboys 17, Redskins 14
Atlanta (+3) at Chicago
Vick will play, but Urlacher will make him pay.
Bears 20, Falcons 13
Green Bay (+3.5) at Baltimore
I actually watched that Green Bay game last week against the Lions on Sunday night. How? Alcohol. Lots of alcohol. I'm drying out this week.
Ravens 17, Packers 15
