Due to the continuing drought, many ponds have dried up and producers are running out of water for their livestock.

Vernon County has been approved for an Emergency Livestock Water program to assist with the construction of wells or waterlines for livestock water.

The sign-up period is March 15 -- May 15. Cost shares of 50 percent are available for eligible components.

Producers must sustain a minimum $1,000 expense of eligible cost/share items (Tank, pad, gravel, pipe, trenching, etc). The cost of water meters is not an eligible expense. Cost shares of up to 90 percent are available for limited resource producers with adjusted gross income of less than $19,350 and a gross income of less than $113,600 in each of the last 2 years.
