Coal famine here

Nevada is nearer a fuel famine today than she has ever been before.

Not a ton of coal can be purchased from any of the Nevada dealers and they all give very small assurance of any this week.

The Wachtel Coal Company, Joe B. Akers and J.S. Wachtel, are all out of coal and none of them are taking a cheerful look to their prospects of getting any coal this week or, in fact, until some decision is reached as to whether the miners strike will be declared on April 1.

With a continue of weather like today, the manufacturers of Nevada will be about the only sufferers, for there is plenty of wood around Nevada to supply the private consumption.

Strike halts work on Richards school this morning

Work was halted this morning on the construction of the new Richards High School as heavy construction workers Local 663 called a strike against the Cronister Brothers Construction Co., Pittsburg, contractors for the job.

One picketer was on duty this morning at the high school site, who was carrying a placard stating that the construction company was not maintaining working conditions as contracted.

H.L. Cronister of the construction company told a Daily Mail reported today that the company had no signed contract with the Local 663, nor had the union yet officially contracted him early this afternoon.
