Track Reporter

Lots of racing and lots of action along with a couple sprinkles greeted the racing fans tonight at Nevada Speedway. The Late Model, a Modified and Mini Stock features left over from last week were run at the beginning of the races tonight. After that our regular racing card was run giving the fans more to cheer about. Dustin Beisley from Fort Scott received the roll-over trophy due him from April 1. Shawn Hendren, Nevada, in the Factory Stock division and Karl Lehmann, Nevada, in the Street Stock division became our first repeat winners of the season. Marty Danner, from Joplin, won the make up Late Model Feature and went on to capture the win in Saturday night's Feature. Not to be outdone, Matt Rose won the makeup Mini Stock Feature and the $200-to-win Mini Stock Special for Saturday night. What will happen this week? Join us each and every week to catch all the action at the biggest little racetrack in the country.

The Late Model Feature from the 15th started off where it had been called with Marty Danner in the lead. A yellow flag flew as Jerry Morgan spun. This erased a sizeable lead held by Danner and closed the field behind him for the restart. Donnie Timmerman zoomed into second place and was chasing Danner down when Melvin Baxter's car went up in a cloud of smoke just as the white flag was flying. Danner captured his first win of the season. Heat race winners were Jack Simmons, Erie, Kan., and Donnie Timmerman, El Dorado Springs. Simmons and Timmerman battled for the lead at the start of the Feature, which allowed Danner to shoot through the middle and take the position. The yellow flew as Morgan spun right in front of the leaders. This closed the field behind Danner for the restart. Danner was able to maintain the lead and capture his second Feature win of the night.

The Modified A-Feature from the 15th started with Daniel Anders gaining the lead and quickly losing it to Ron Bolin Jr. Several yellow flags flew closing the field behind Bolin for the restart. Kenneth Pike raced up to catch Bolin but was not able to pass leaving Bolin to claim the win, his first of the season. Heat race winners were Bob Kerbs and Daniel Anders, both from Nevada. After a couple attempts, the Feature was underway with Kerbs in the lead. Kevin Morrow and Jeff Douty tangled, resulting in Morrow hitting one of the tire barriers. This brought out the yellow and closed the field behind Kerbs for the restart. Anders tried for the lead on the inside but he couldn't make it stick and along came Rusty Skaggs to take away second place by going around on the high side. Skaggs and Kerbs raced side by side prior to Skaggs gaining the lead. Skaggs took the win, his first of the season.

Street Stock heat race winners were Joe Beard, Liberal, Karl Lehmann, and Shawn Hendren, both from Nevada. Lehmann took the lead at the start of the Feature. Denny Chrisenbery went for a spin, bringing out the yellow flag and closing the field behind Lehmann for the restart. Lehmann was able to build up a lead as Hendren, Chris Rodabaugh and Olin Wyland battled it out for second place. Lehmann captured the win, his second of the season.

Factory Stock heat race winners were Henry Whaley, Harrisonville, Shawn Hendren, Nevada and Joey Davenport, Girard, Kan. Whaley got the lead at the start of the Feature. Hendren raced up to catch Whaley and they battled for the lead. Hendren had just gained the lead when Ralph Danner and Danny Thurston spun bringing out the yellow flag. Whaley was placed back in the lead for the restart. Once again Hendren took the lead. Another yellow flew as John Stafford spun in front of a whole bunch of cars, all were able to miss him but the yellow flag flew. This time Hendren was in the lead for the restart and held it through the balance of the race to claim the win, his second of the season.

The Mini Stock Feature continued from April 15 started with Matt Rose jumping out into a big lead, leaving the field behind. Mike Baxter spun, getting into Brandon Leer, who was able to keep going. This brought out the yellow and closed the field behind Rose for the restart. On the restart Bret Knight tried to get the inside track and gain the lead but couldn't hold onto it. While Knight was trying to pass on the inside, Scott Mohlfeld snuck up on the outside and took second place. Rose maintained the lead and collected his first win of the season. Heat race winners were Matt Rose, Liberal, and Brent Knight, Jasper. Rose and Knight started on the front row of the Feature. Knight jumped into the lead at the start but Rose came right back and took it away. Rose had a good lead until Tangie Beard bounced into him, which allowed Knight to gain the lead. Brandon Leer spun, bringing out the yellow flag. Rose was placed back in the lead and held it to capture his second win of the evening.
