Transportation sales tax renewal to appear on August 8 ballot
Wednesday, May 3, 2006
Voters can expect to see a ballot issue in August, asking for a renewal of the city of Nevada's 1/2-cent sales tax for transportation. The Nevada City Council approved a measure authorizing that the question be placed on the ballot during a regular meeting last night.
The tax was first approved by voters in 1996 and renewed in 2001; the renewal before voters in August would, if approved, extend the tax for another five years.
The 1/2-cent transportation sales tax pays for resurfacing and curb, guttering and storm drain replacement and repair and is specifically ear-marked for this purpose.
