Ruby C. Meritt

Ruby C. Meritt, 81, Wichita, Kan., formerly of Nevada, Mo., passed away on June 30, 2006, in Wichita. She was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Nevada, the fourth child of John and Pearl Knight. She and Everett Meritt were married in July 1944, and he preceded her in death in 2000 following 56 years of marriage.

Ruby grew up and attended schools in Nevada. After a few years following their marriage, she and her husband moved to Texas to work on the pipeline for several years. Later they returned to Nevada where they farmed until they moved to Kansas and continued farming. Ruby also worked as a cook at Lilly Lake School and later at the coffee shop in the YMCA in Wichita. Ruby found God and family to be more important than anything. She was a devoted Baptist woman and was very involved in church. Ruby loved to take her family camping, playing and fishing with her grandchildren, singing, cooking, gardening, and just spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Raymond and Steven Meritt, both of Wichita; two daughters, Connie Swick, Rose Hill, Kan., and Shirley Brooks, Goddard, Kan.; one sister, Florence Courts, Las Cruces, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Graveside services were held on Monday, July 3, at Dunlap Cemetery, Rose Hill, Kan., under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home East Chapel, Wichita.
