Nevada Speedway report -- July 8

The regular drivers joined a few new ones for a good night of racing Saturday at Nevada Speedway. Some cars and drivers liked the dry, slick track and others couldn't keep going in the right direction, which made for some anxious moments as everyone watched to see if oncoming cars could avoid hitting spinners. We had new winners in two divisions. Chris Rodabaugh in the Street Stock and Brent Knight in the Mini Stock both won their first of the season. Next week should be really exciting with the Modified Special and the $1,000-to-win Feature.
Late Model heat race winners were Jack Simmons, Erie, Kan., and Donnie Timmerman, El Dorado Springs. Marty Danner got the lead at the start of the Feature. Jerry Morgan raced around the outside, gained the lead and then Danner reclaimed the position. While that was going on, Simmons and Timmerman raced up to join the battle for the lead. Simmons was trying the high side and Timmerman the inside of the track. Simmons gained the lead. Timmerman challenged all the way through the race, getting alongside Simmons, but was unable to complete the pass. Simmons claimed the win, his fourth of the season.
Modified heat race winners were Ron McClellan, Jasper, and Bob Kerbs, Nevada. McClellan got the lead at the start of the Feature. Kevin Morrow jumped to the outside of the track and gained the lead. Morrow never looked back as he collected the win, his third of the season.
Street Stock heat race winners were Denny Chrisenbery, Bronaugh, Andy Skaggs, Fort Scott, Kan., and Karl Lehmann, Nevada. Lehmann and Chris Rodabaugh raced side by side at the beginning of the Feature. First one was in front by a bumper, then the other one. A yellow flag flew as Joe Pryor spun, collecting a number of cars including Kris Nelson and Andy Skaggs. An original lineup was called for the restart. This time Rodabaugh got the lead with Lehmann right beside him all the way around the track. While these two battled, Denny Chrisenbery raced right behind, waiting for a chance to pass them both. Lehmann had just taken the lead when a yellow flew as Joe Beard went spinning. This placed Rodabaugh back in the lead for the restart. Rodabaugh held off Lehmann and Chrisenbery to collect the win, his first of the season.
Factory Stock heat race winners were Shawn Hendren, Nevada, Aaron Fillpot, Webb City, and Cody Elnicki, Girard, Kan. The B-Feature started with Chip Moore getting the lead at the start and he was quickly passed by Justin Thurston. Thurston, Darren Dennison, Shawn Parker, Tyler Black, Pat Burns and Rob Robertson moved to the back of the A-Feature. Elnicki and Joey Davenport raced side by side until Daveport got the lead. Chris Hendren and Eddie Fox ended up in the infield, which brought out the yellow flag and an original lineup restart was called. This time Elnicki got the lead. Shawn Hendren raced up on the inside of the track and gained the lead. Another yellow flew as Thurston got sideways, collecting Black and Norman Mackley. This closed the field behind Shawn Hendren for the restart. Hendren and Joey Davenport left the field behind as they raced for the lead. Hendren was able to maintain the lead and collected his fifth win of the season.
Mini Stock heat race winners were Robert Somers Jr., Nevada, Brent Knight, Jasper, and Brandon Leer, Nevada. Knight jumped into the lead at the start of the Feature. A yellow flew as Leer slowed on the track and Chris Hardesty jumped right over the front of the car and Jerry Wilson ended up stuck on a retaining tire. This prompted an original lineup restart. Knight again got the lead. The engine on the Joe Beard car blew up, dumping oil all over the track, which resulted in Brian Beard going head on into the cement wall. After the track was cleaned up, Knight led the field down to take the green flag and racing resumed. Just as the white flag was about to fly, Knight and Rose, who were racing for the lead, came up to lap two slower cars who were racing side by side. Knight went through the middle and Rose tried to go around on the high side, which caused Rose and Kelly Compton, one of the cars, to end up in the retaining fence. Knight was in the lead on the restart and captured his first win of the season.
