FORT SCOTT -- An unidentified woman was injured following a two-car collision that took place Friday afternoon near the intersection of Sixth Street and National Avenue.

Law enforcement authorities at the scene on Friday said the woman was transported to Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott with undetermined injuries. Fort Scott Fire Department and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene just after 12:30 p.m.

The accident occurred after the car the woman was driving, a Toyota Cressida with California license plates, collided with a 1994 Buick Park Avenue driven by Uniontown resident Leonard White.

At the scene, White said he was traveling south on National Avenue at the time of the accident. His wife, Betty White, was riding in the car at the time and did not appear to be injured, but she had complained of mild stomach pains, he said.

White said he stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of the two streets and was talking to his wife when his car and the Cressida, which was traveling east on Sixth Street at the time, collided. The force of the collision pushed the two cars down Sixth Street, and they came to rest near the parking entrance of a convenience store located on the southeast corner of the intersection.

An unidentified female passenger riding in the Cressida at the time of the accident did not appear to be injured.
