Bob Beisly II, Richards, has filed suit against a regional drug task force, claiming they were not organized legally.

The suit, brought by attorney Tyce Stuart Smith, Waynesville, was filed Monday in Vernon County Circuit Court.

Board members and officer-in-charge of the Southwest Missouri Major Case Squad Drug Task Force, Vernon, Barton, Dade, Cedar, St. Clair and Bates counties and 10 cities in the six counties are named as defendants.

The suit alleges the six-and-a-half-year-old drug task force was not organized legally and is not operational because none of the local governments ever approved it.

Beisly wants an order voiding any agreement establishing the squad and an end to the use of public money to support it.

Beisly was arrested on two charges of distributing, manufacturing, producing or attempting to possess with the intent to distribute a controlled substance in July 2005 after an investigation by the drug task force.

Beisly is also the subject of a forfeiture hearing. The petition, a civil proceeding against Beisly, was filed in circuit court Sept. 7, 2005.
