FORT SCOTT, Kan. -- Fort Scott High School's volleyball team conducted its first Red and White Scrimmage Friday afternoon in the FSHS gymnasium, just a couple of hours before the football team held its annual scrimmage.

The freshmen scrimmaged first, working out for about a half hour under coach Curt Toll, playing a two-game match. Then the JV team performed for about 20 minutes and played one game. Head coach Kelly Toll and her assistants, Treva Williams and Amy Cosens, then put the varsity and some select JV'ers through the paces for about another 30 minutes.

"It was a lot of fun," Toll said. "It was good to see what we're doing well and what we need to work on. And I think we have a lot of potential to have a really good season."

The Tiger varsity began their season Saturday morning with a non-league quadrangular at Girard, Kan. that also included Pittsburg and Columbus.

The freshman and JV teams start up later this week. Toll says that, based on what she saw, the future looks good for the Fort Scott program.

"I was encouraged while I was watching the freshmen," Toll said. "I think that the other coach Toll is building a team that will help our program. The JV has a lot of players who will feed right into the varsity program."

Fort Scott's JV plays in a quad Tuesday at Iola while the freshmen open with a home quad Thursday.
