NEVADA, Mo. -- The Nevada Lady Tiger golfers opened the 2006 season by shooting a 285 and finishing third in their own Lady Tiger Invitational at Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course Monday.
Lakyn Mansfield shot 111 and Aubrey Jones 113 over 18 holes as Nevada finished behind Carl Junction and Clinton.
Chelsea Turner and Nicole Campbell combined to shoot 114 playing best ball over 18 holes but they did not factor into the team total.
Samantha Burnham and Mela Galimberto shot 61 playing a scramble format over nine holes for the third component of Nevada's team score.
"I was pleased with them," Nevada head coach Brian Leonard said. "I was expecting some of the individual scores to be lower, but I was pleased."
Carl Junction won by 15 strokes over Clinton with a 218 team score. Returning four state qualifiers from a season ago, Carl Junction had the lowest best ball score and lowest scramble total in the six-team field.
Clinton, which shot 233 total, had the individual medalist, as Aimee Kaiser shot 84 on the par-72 course.
Seneca's Raine Lounis was second individually with an 85.
Lyndsey Eddy of Carl Junction was third with a 94.
Seneca was fourth in the team competition with a 288, and Joplin was fifth with a 293.
Pleasant Hill also participated but didn't have a full team so they didn't qualify in the team competition.
"I'm still trying to figure out how to get everybody to finish at the same time," Leonard said of the tournament itself. "But I think everybody's starting to get used to the format."
The Lady Tigers will be practicing the rest of the week and their next competition will be Tuesday at the Fort Scott Invitational at Fort Scott Country Club.
