Thurman made a great race

Judge B.G. Thurman is exceedingly jubilant over his election as circuit judge of this judicial district. His friends here were afraid Dade and Cedar counties would go so strongly against him that it would make his election doubtful, while the Republicans felt sure these two counties would defeat Thurman. Thurman's election is the biggest defeat the Republicans have received in many years and one of the biggest victories the Democrats have scored in recent years.

Isaac Katz drug firm head dies

KANSAS CITY -- Isaac Katz, chairman of the executive committee of the Katz Drug Co., died early today. The 77-year-old founder of a chain of 34 drug stores in the Midwest had been critically ill since Monday when he suffered a coronary attack.

Besides 20 Katz stores in the Greater Kansas City area, there are stores in the St. Louis, Des Moines, Oklahoma City, Sioux City, and St. Joseph, Mo.
