Just dig it
The first winter storm of the season came through with a vengeance, dropping some freezing rain before turning to heavy snowfall Thursday afternoon. By morning, the thick mass of snow was heavy and wet, leaving cars stuck in driveways and parking lots throughout the city. Schools were closed throughout the county, and businesses got off to a slow start, as workers dug their way to the office or store, then spent much time digging a pathway to their respective businesses. Throughout the city, citizens reached out to help one another, volunteering time at the shovel, a ride or help pushing a vehicle to anyone in need. Most also offered a smile and appreciation for the beauty of the new-fallen snow as well. Above, Troy Alexander of May's Floral, on the Square, heaves a heavy load of snow away from the sidewalk in front of the store. Vernon Countians received 9-13 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.
