The Nevada Tiger wrestling team posted a 45-30 victory in Clinton over the Cardinals Tuesday.
Josh Palmer and Spenser Daniels each won by pin and the Tigers took advantage of two forfeits to topple the hosts.
"I knew it was going to be a battle," Nevada head coach Kevin Huck said. "We were able to come away with some very crucial, important wins."
Palmer (145 pounds) and Daniels (189) gave Nevada the maximum points for their efforts. Nevada received max points for the forfeits at 125 and 130 pounds as well.
Others who won their matches by decision were Mason Heard (112), Drew Shepherd (119), Matt Kennedy (152), Ryan Herda (215) and Jerrod Alexander (heavyweight).
Dominic Habjan (103), Wyatt Whitworth (135), Todd Brier (140), Cole Bond (160) and Lawrence Shouse (171) each lost by pin, as Clinton kept the match close.
The Cardinals didn't win any matches by decision.
The Tigers have a week off before they open the Southwest Conference season with a dual at home against defending conference champion Neosho Tuesday. It's the first of only three varsity home matches for the Tiger wrestlers.
"Neosho will be solid again," Huck said. "But I believe we're better (than last season) this year. We're trying to come in and compete with them -- plus it's on our home floor."
