The two main Vernon County political parties have submitted names to Governor Matt Blunt for his consideration to replace Southern Commissioner Bonnie McCord who resigned the post to accept the Presiding Commissioners office she won in the November general election. McCord's term as Southern Commissioner has two more years to run so whoever replaces her will have the seat until the 2008 general election.

The Vernon County Democrats submitted two names for consideration; Connie Oyer, Route 3, Nevada and educator Paul Sprenkle, Sheldon.

The Vernon County Republicans submitted Kennon Shaw as their pick to replace McCord. Shaw is the owner of Shaw Plumbing/Heating/Cooling and is a retired teacher.
