Due to the continuing drought, many more ponds have dried up and producers are running out of water for their livestock. Vernon County has been approved for an extended Emergency Livestock Water program to assist with the construction of wells or waterlines for livestock water. The sign-up period is Dec. 21, 2006-Jan 10, 2007. Cost shares of 50 percent are available for eligible components.
Some provisions are: There must have been an adequate watering system (pond, stream, well, etc.) at the pasture location before the drought which is dry or no longer available due to the drought. Producers must sustain a minimum $1,000 expense of eligible cost/share items such as tank, pad, gravel, pipe, trenching, wells (cost of water meters is not an eligible expense).
Interested producers should contact the FSA office at 102 W Allison, Nevada or call (417) 667-8137 for more information.
