Commission seat not
Nevada Daily Mail
No appointment has been made for the southern commissioner's seat, according to Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt's office in Jefferson City. Due to a misunderstanding, the Daily Mail reported that Kennon Shaw of Bronaugh had been appointed, but later learned that information was incorrect. Shaw is the lone Republican among three candidates nominated for the position.
All three candidates for Vernon County southern commissioner are long-time residents with a history of community activity. Shaw is from Bronaugh. One of the Democrats is from Nevada and the other is from Sheldon.
Shaw graduated from Bronaugh High School and still lives in the community. He worked at various jobs that had a connection to heating, cooling and refrigeration. He owns his own company, Shaw Refrigeration, and is retired from the Nevada R-5 School District, where he was an instructor for 25 years.
Shaw has been married for 50 years and is a member of the Retired Teachers Association, president of the Bronaugh Volunteer Fire Department board of directors, past president of Bronaugh Community Club and a member of the Moundville Township Board.
Connie Oyer has been the Center Township tax collector for 11 years, a job that will no longer exist after changes enacted by the Missouri legislature take effect in 2007. Oyer worked at the W. F. Norman company as an office assistant for 10 years, in the registrar's office at Cottey College for six years and as a teacher's aide at Nevada R-5 schools for six years.
Oyer is a member of the Soroptomist Club, the Nevada Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and the Nevada Garden Club. She is a docent at the Bushwhacker Museum as well as a member of the board of directors of the Vernon County Historical Society. Oyer is also a substitute teacher for the R-5 school district.
Paul Sprenkle is a teacher at the Sheldon R-8 school district and is also the network administrator and computer technician for the school.
He is the owner of Drywood Enterprises, which handles automobile sales, computer sales and service and rental properties. For 10 years, Sprenkle was an agent for Shelter Insurance Company. He also worked for two years at Sheldon State Bank as a loan officer.
Sprenkle is the secretary of the Democratic Central Committee, Drywood Town-ship committeeman, a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, the Missouri Independent Automobile Dealers Association, the Sheldon Community Teachers Association and the Nevada/
Vernon County Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Sheldon R-8 Technology Committee and Adults Pulling for Teens, C-2000 Drug-Free Activities Committee.
