Director of Public Safety Gary Herstein announced the promotion of two veteran employees, one in the fire department and one in the police department.

Kevin Doyle had been working in the position Lt. Pat McCarty retired from, Lieutenant of Public Safety/Communications and Records, and effective Dec. 27, 2006, he was promoted to fill that spot. In the reorganization the city went through during the summer, that position was moved to directly under the supervision of the director of public safety.

Doyle has been on the force for nearly 22 years, since July 3, 1985, and has served in a variety of positions; communications officer, patrolman, corporal, field training officer, sergeant and detective.

Robert Benn was promoted to the rank of fire commander effective Jan. 22, 2007. That position, like Doyle's, was moved under the supervision of the director of public safety in the reorganization the city departments went through after the city council moved to cut the city's expenditures.

Benn has been with the Nevada Fire Department since Jan. 8, 1992. Benn has served as a fireman, driver, lieutenant, department training officer and as a captain.
