Lamar school bus overturns

Five students were injured Wednesday afternoon when a Lamar school bus, eastbound on Barton County Route C two miles east of Irwin overturned in a one-vehicle crash.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the bus was carrying nine students when the driver lost control and the bus flipped on its side. Susan J. Griffitt was driving the bus at approximately 1:40 p.m. When the wheels ran off the south side of the road, the report said, she overcorrected and the bus skidded across the roadway and struck the north ditch before returning to the roadway and turning on its side.

The report also indicated that five of the students were transported to Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar.

Brandon W. Jones, 13, Lamar; Megan L. Scheetz, 16, Irwin; and Cody A. Tillery, age unknown, Lamar; were all listed with moderate injuries. Alex L. Pennell, 5, Lamar ;and Megan N. Straw, 12, Sheldon; were listed with minor injuries.
