Three Tigers in semifinals, all qualifiers still alive after first day

The Nevada Tigers sent seven wrestlers to the Class 2 state tournament and after one day of competition, all seven are still alive.
Three of the seven are in the semifinals. Mason Heard won 6-1 in the quarterfinals this morning, while Spenser Daniels and Ryan Herda earned pins as they all advance to the final four in their weight classes.
Four Tigers earned first-round victories Thursday, while the three that lost opening matches won their first wrestleback battles, advancing to today's action.
Heard, Daniels, Herda and Cole Bond all won their openers.
At 112 pounds, Heard nabbed a major decision over Tanner Aebersold of Savannah, 11-3.
The junior faced Coldy Finnley of Marshall in the quarterfinals today. Heard (30-7) beat Finnley 6-1, and will take on Logan Pulse of Richmond in the semis tonight.
Bond beat Vince Wolk of Ste. Genevieve at 152 pounds, 8-1.
Bond (34-5) then faced Tyler St. Louis (44-1) of Platte County in the quarterfinals today. Bond was penalized a point for clasping his hands late in that match, and St. Louis won 3-2.
Bond will be in the wrestlebacks against Kyle Simon of Excelsior Springs later today.
Daniels pinned Justin Lowe of Owensville in 1 minute, 55 seconds Thursday at 189 pounds.
Daniels (35-1) drew Cody Allen of Odessa in the quarters, pinning him as well.
The junior will take on Clayton Olsson of Warren County in the semis tonight.
Herda won by forfeit over Johnathan Jacobs of Mexico in the opening round at 215. Herda (36-4) faced John Jewell of Pembroke in the quarterfinals, earning a fall to move to the semifinals. Herda will take on Steele Shippy in the semis.
Josh Palmer, Matt Kennedy and Jerrod Alexander each lost first-round matches, but won in the wrestleback competition Thursday afternoon.
Palmer lost to Jacob Van Hoose of Kirksville, 10-0, at 140 pounds. Palmer then rebounded to topple Anthony Walker of O'Hara, 13-4, in the wrestlebacks.
Palmer next faces the loser of today's quarterfinal between Nathan Enyart of Seneca, and C.J. Robinson of Excelsior Springs.
At 145 pounds, Kennedy lost his opener against Dakota Fowler of Platte County. 9-4.
Kennedy then pinned Jon Morgan of Affton in 4:01 during wrestleback competition.
Kennedy will face the loser of the quarterfinal match between Travis Green of Carl Junction and Adam Johnson of Ste. Genevieve.
Alexander lost a heartbreaker in the first round, 8-6 in overtime, to Va'Shon Moore of Platte County at 285 pounds.
Alexander then pinned Wes Baker of Warren County in wrestlebacks, needing 2:29 to do so.
The junior will face the loser of today's match between Chris Crawford of St. Pius and Brian Combs of MICDS.
In the team competition Nevada is in fifth after the first day of matches.
Platte County leads with 37 points, while Oak Grove is second with 24. Nevada is tied with Kirksville for fifth with 20 points.
Odessa is in third and Clinton is fourth.
The semifinals and third round of wrestlebacks will be tonight, with the championship matches set for tomorrow.
