FORT SCOTT, Kan. -- Fort Scott High School's boys defeated Nevada, 60-39, in what turned out to the championship game of the Fort Scott Freshmen Basketball Tournament at the FSHS gymnasium here Friday night.

Fort Scott, Nevada and Iola all finished with 2-1 records in the round-robin tournament while Chanute was 0-3. Fort Scott allowed the fewest defensive points while Nevada beat Iola head-to-head.

Gary Floyd scored 18 points to lead Fort Scott and Mikey Karleskint added 14. Mark Weatherly led Nevada with 13 points.

Iola defeated Chanute, 49-35, in the first game of the evening.

Fort Scott's girls defeated Nevada, 37-25, at Buck Run Community Center to finish second in the tournament. Iola took first place with a perfect 3-0 record. Chanute was third while Nevada finished fourth.

Sammi Therwanger scored 10 points to lead Fort Scott. Morgan Maycumber and Breianna Jones each scored eight for the hosts while Lauren Klinksick led Nevada with 11 points.

Iola clinched the tournament earlier in the night by beating Chanute, 48-35.
