Swimmers set personal bests in Springfield

Nevada-area swimmers Jesse Claypool, Katie Kearbey and Shelby Thorns competed in the Missouri Valley Division 2 championships as part of the Jasper County Killer Whales recently, and all three set personal records.

Claypool, 10, won two events, taking the 200-yard Individual Medley (3 minutes, 4.50 seconds) and the 50-yard breaststroke (43.61 seconds).

Claypool also finished third in the 100 butterfly (1:37.68) and the 100 IM (1:25.21). She finished fifth in the 50 butterfly (41.16) and seventh in the 50 backstroke (42.42).

Kearbey, 12, also won a pair of events. Kearbey took the 200 IM (2:35.21) and he 200 butterfly (2:27.19).

Kearbey also was second in the 200 freestyle (2:14.50), third in the 100 freestyle (1:03.48), 10th in the 100 IM (1:15.10) and 12th in the 50 freestyle (30.02).

Thorns, 13, was 12th in the 200 breaststroke (3:18.88) and also competed in the 50 freestyle (31.61), 100 freestyle (1:11.50) and 100 breaststroke (1:30.90).

Kearbey and Claypool were scheduled to compete this weekend in Wichita, Kan., at the Division 1 championships.
