Wine and food fest a hit

The Nevada Rotary Club sponsored its first International Wine and Food Fest at the Nevada Country Club on Saturday, March 10. The event featured a presentation of family wines by Andrea Ebert of the Schloss Saarstein & Wirsching Vineyards in Germany. Ms. Ebert was a Rotary Exchange Student from Germany in the early 1980s and today is part owner of two German wineries. Her husband, Christian, will serve the local Rotary Club in Serrig, Germany, as president next year. More than 100 guests attended the event.
Ebert presented a 2005 Schloss Saarstein Reisling, a 2005 Wirsching Silvaner Dry, and a Schloss Saarstein Kabinett. The dinner menu included Chef's Assorted Canapés, Roast Loin of Pork with Orange Ginger Sauce, German Potato Pancakes with Sour Cream, and Sautéed Red Cabbage and Apples. Caramelized Fresh Pineapple with Vanilla Ice Cream was served for dessert. Local pianist, Janice Runyan provided music for the event.
Fest proceeds will go to Medical Supplies Network, a benevolence of Rotary International that supplies medical material and equipment to those in desperate need in underdeveloped nations. The Network has shipped 116 cargo containers to 32 countries over the last 11 years.
The Rotary Club hopes to make the International Food and Wine Fest an annual event.
