Plans are under discussion to place a bond issue on the ballot for Nevada's wastewater treatment plant.
Topping the agenda for a regular meeting set for 7 p.m., in council chambers, inside the city's public safety building at Ash and Austin, the Nevada City Council will be considering an ordinance asking Nevada voters to approve $9.8 million in revenue bonds at a special election on Aug. 7 to replace the wastewater treatment facility. These bonds, along with $5.2 million in bonds approved by voters in 2003, but never issued. will cover the entire cost of the replacement and will be repaid with money generated by sewer taxes. The current sewer tax rates and capital improvement sales tax will cover the cost of repaying the bonds.
In addition to the bond issue, the council will be considering bids for this summer's street construction program that will be paid for with the city's 1/2-cent transportation sales tax.
The council will also be looking at sponsoring a grant for the Moss House, setting the fees for using the Nevada-Vernon County Community Center and three ordinances revising the city's rules and requirements for all contracting businesses that operate within the city to bring the city's regulations into compliance with state statutes.
There will also be a public hearing before the council considers vacating two-feet of the right of way on the south side of East Cherry Street in front of the Key Building to facilitate the sale of the building to Harold Neas. Nevada Planning Commission sent a positive recommendation to the council. The northwest corner of the Key Building extends into the street right of way.
