Evelyn Marie "Mollie" Denning
Evelyn Marie "Mollie" Denning, age 85, of Nevada, died at her home in Nevada on April 16, 2007. She was born on Dec. 8, 1921, in Wellington, Kan., to Jay Emery Newell and M. Grace Gregson Newell. On March 29, 1939, she was named to Richard N. Dickason in Newkirk, Okla., and he preceded her in death in 1979. She was later married to Anthony C. "Tony" Denning on April 17, 1982, in Nevada and be preceded her in death in 1996.
Mollie grew up in Blackwell, Okla. She came to Nevada in 1943 with her husband Richard. Mollie served as the activities director at the Moore-Few Care Center for many years. She played the organ for dances and on the radio beginning at the age of 13. For many years she has played regularly at senior dances, and at the senior centers for Nevada, Fort Scott, and El Dorado Springs. She was a lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians and was a member of the Community Christian Church, Nevada, where she served as organist for more than 30 years.
Mollie is survived by three daughters, Dixie Lee Hendricks of Appleton City, Mo., Diane Martin and her husband Allan of Walker, Mo., and Delene Fulton and her husband Joe of Nevada; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Deverne Denning and his wife Connie, LeRoy Denning and his wife Janet, and Julie Prince all of Nevada; and numerous stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Shouse; and a brother, Leland Newell, and an infant daughter.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 19, at the Community Christian Church in Nevada with the Rev. Wes Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 p.m., Tuesday until noon on Thursday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 7:30-8:30 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
