NHS baseball falls in Clinton

CLINTON -- Hits were hard to come by as the Nevada Tigers and Clinton Cardinals squared off in non-conference play Tuesday.
The Cardinals parleyed five hits into four runs, and that was enough to topple the Tigers, 4-2.
Nevada had only three hits, including a triple by Colby Shepherd. Jerrod Alexander and Ben Fisher added singles.
"It seems like our timing might have been a little off," Nevada head coach Jared Brown said. "We were hitting the ball hard, hitting it on a line, but just hitting it right at people."
Tuesday's game was the first for Nevada since a doubleheader at Parsons April 9. Rain caused two other games last week to be postponed.
Shepherd started and threw five stingy innings for the Tigers, keeping them in the game.
"(Shepherd) did a really good job," Brown said. "He kept the ball down and was hitting his spots."
Nevada's JV also lost, 5-3.
The Tigers dropped to 4-5 this season. Nevada resumes Southwest Conference play Thursday when they visit defending state champion Webb City.
Nevada is 0-1 in conference play so far this season.
