Nevada, Mo. -- The Bushwhacker Steering Committee is pleased to announce the theme for this year's 43rd Bushwhacker Days and Bushwhacker Parade. With an appreciation for the countless hours spent by numerous volunteers, the committee has selected Bushwhacker V.I.P. Days 2007 as the theme for the four-day community festival, with V.I.P. meaning "Volunteers Initiate Pride."

To continue with this theme, the ever-popular Bushwhacker parade will recognize local volunteers with the premise, "Volunteers Make It Happen."

Charlie Johnson, Bushwhacker 2007 committee chair, said, "Bushwhacker Days is a huge success every year because of local volunteers willing to commit the time and effort it takes to get the job done. If it weren't for volunteers, Bushwhacker Days, like many other area events, just wouldn't happen." He continued, "This is our opportunity, as a community, to recognize and honor our local community-minded heroes."

Bushwhacker V.I.P. Days 2007 is scheduled for June 13 -16. From the opening ceremonies on Wednesday evening through the Ricochet concert Saturday night, this year's celebration offers something for everyone, Johnson said. As area residents attend festivities during these four fun-filled days local volunteers will abound to make sure it comes off smoothly.

"Volunteers truly do make Bushwhacker Days happen," Johnson said, "And this year, we need you!"

The Bushwhacker Steering Committee is asking responsible adults to step up to the plate to do their part to make this year's event the best ever. Additional man and womanpower is required in numerous roles during the four-day festival. Volunteers are needed for parade block coordinators, parade crowd control and to be in charge of the abundant vehicular barricades limiting access to the downtown square area.

Johnson commented, "These are important positions that are directly related to the safety and pleasure enjoyed at Bushwhacker Days."

The committee is asking individuals or groups from community and civic organizations to volunteer for two-hour blocks of time to do their part to help make Bushwhacker Days 2007 a successful event.
