Change is everywhere and stability is elusive, especially in the job market. Job seekers and those wishing to upgrade their skills have a resource in Nevada -- the Missouri Career Center, 621 East Highland. Whether the job seeker is young, and looking for their first job or retired and looking for extra income to supplement Social Security or other retirement income the center can help hone the skills needed to acquire, and keep a good job.

"There are a whole series of services available here," Bill Thole, employment and training ccoordinator for Experience Works, a service of the Career Center said. "We teach job success skills and provide state of the art training. Courses cover many different topics."

Thole said that the free training not only benefits the job seekers, it benefits the employers that hire them.

"Training in a new employee is expensive and every time an employer has to replace someone they lose money and productivity," Thole said. "Employers are finding they get better employees through this training."

Topics covered a wide range from preparing to conduct a job search with the best methods to making success more likely once a job is secured.

"We have courses on resume writing, respecting diversity, career readiness and even sexual harassment," Thole said.

Some other topics include successful interviewing techniques, letter writing, work values and career interest, financial literacy, business etiquette and basics of customer service. There is even a course on the stress of unemployment.

"We have classes starting all the time," Tholes said. "We have a class starting May 22. Anyone thinking about looking for work or getting ahead in their job should take these courses."
