Nevada High School seniors Afton Baldwin (left) and Bryan Campbell were named the outstanding female and male athletes for the 2006-07 season, respectively. Baldwin will be playing basketball at Crowder College in Neosho next season, and Campbell recently signed to play basketball at Pittsburg State University.
Matt Kennedy and Amanda Wilson were presented the 2007 NHS Senior Scholar Athlete awards as well as the U.S. Army Scholar Athlete awards during Friday's Senior Recognition Night activities. Both students graduated with honors diplomas and Wilson graduated in the top 10% of the class.
Devon Ozkal and Anita Van Rooyen were presented the U.S. Marine Corps Scholar Athlete awards during Friday's Senior Recognition Night.
Nevada High School Activities Director Kevin McKinley presented the Roger Kennedy award and the Robert A. Wilson Memorial Wrestling Award to his nephew Matt Kennedy during Friday's Senior Recognition Night. These award are both based on the character of the recipient as well as their recipients athletic abilities. The recipient of the Roger Kennedy Award must have five characteristics: be a good athlete, exhibit unselfishness, have a love of fellow athletes, show sportsmanship, have a good attitude to younger children and a good attitude to coaches and teachers. The Robert A. Williams requires a recipient to have an excellent character, be a school leader, be respected by his peers, be a practicing Christian and have high moral values. McKinley's younger brother David (?) was the first recipient of this awards.
Brittany Pettibon and Spencer Thompson received the MSHSAA Award of Excellence for exemplary display of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity during Friday's Senior Reconition Night activites.
