Nevada Parks and Recreation is once again offering local residents a chance to participate in the British Soccer Camp, for the fourth year in a row, presented by Challenger Sports.

Camp dates are Aug. 6-10, at the Izaak Walton Park Soccer Field. All fees include a free soccer ball and T-shirt. Challenger's British Soccer Camp is now the largest youth soccer camp in the United States. Each year, 450 British Challenger staff members will coach around 60,000 boys and girls and 10,000 coaches.

Participants will learn a variety of things each day. They learn and practice the most effective fakes and moves while at the same time developing great touch and coordination. They have a series of practices which provide players with repeated opportunities to hone their core soccer skills-passing, control, shooting, heading and dribbling. The campers love the daily program of fun camp activities and competitions.

The following camps will be offered:

* First Kicks -- a friendly low-key introduction to the basics of the game through games, stories and fun. This camp is for boys and girls ages 3 and 4 years, 9-10 a.m.; the cost is $55 per child.

* Mini-Soccer -- Fun soccer activities, basic technical practices and small-sided games. This camp is for boys and girls ages 5 and 6, 10 a.m.-noon; the cost is $75 per child.

* Half-Day Player Development Camp -- Emphasis is placed upon individual skill development, mastery of the core techniques and fundamental tactical awareness. This camp is for boys and girls ages 7-16, 1-4 p.m.; the cost is $95 per child.

Anyone interested in hosting the camp coach should contact Robin McHugh at (417) 448-2742. The host family will receive a rebate of up to $80 toward the cost of their camp fees.

For more information, contact Stacey Squire at Challenger Sports, at (800) 878-2167. Camp participants may register by mailing a check to Stacey Squire, Challenger Sports, 8022 Flint St., Lenexa, KS 66214. Registration is also available online at www.challengersports.com. Participants must register before July 27 to avoid a $10 late fee; and those who register online by June 22 receive a free British Soccer replica jersey.
