Bushwhacker parade winners announced

The Bushwhacker Days parade is always a favorite part of the annual celebration, and this year was no exception. Several hundred people gathered on the Square and along the parade route to see the dozens of entries pass by.

Winners were selected by a panel of judges in several categories.

Crystal D. Hancock/Daily Mail The Elliot Scouts, overall winners in the event, wave colors and add their historical touch to the Bushwhacker Days Parade.

Adult: First place: Elliott Scouts Marching Unit; second place, Vernon County Relay for Life; and third place, Vernon County People for Pets.

Youth: First place, Vernon County 4-H; second place, Nevada Show Choir; and third place, Nevada High School Flying Tigers Drill Team and Color Guard.

Antique vehicles: First place, Carey Barrett, 1960 Ford Fairlane 500; second place, Doris Beard, 1929 Model A Ford; and third place, Frank and Pat Arnold, 1951 Ford F-1.

Business: First place, 3M Nevada; second place Nevada Daily Mail and Nevada News; third place, Nevada Elks Lodge No. 564.

Equestrian: First place, Debra Schuster and Crystal Light; second place, Heartland Twisters Drill Team; and third place, Carl Johnson's Halfginers.

The overall grand champion and winner of the "BW V.I.P" award was the Elliott Scouts entry.
