Wide variety of employers to be present at Job Fair 2007, Nevada
NEVADA, Mo. -- Calling all job seekers! Bring your resume and put on a big smile! A wide variety of employers will be present at Job Fair 2007 in Nevada, Mo., on June 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 102 E. Austin (formerly Aldi's).
Approximately 30 exhib-itors, including employers, educational facilities and insurance companies are registered from Vernon, Bourbon, Barton, Bates, Cedar and surrounding counties.
The Nevada Daily Mail/Nevada News, KNEM/
KNMO Radio, The Lamar Democrat, First Christian Church of Nevada and Sauder Woodworking joined together to create the job fair in response to the closing of O'Sullivan Industries and to help others in the surrounding area looking for a job.
"This fair is very exciting," Tabatha Beerbower, Nevada Daily Mail/Fort Scott Tribune special projects manager, said. "This is the first multi-county, multi-media supported job fair of it's kind. We understand the impact of the loss of a major employer to our communities and the sponsors are pulling together for the benefit of those communities."
To date, participating exhibitors in the fair include such companies as Amazon.com Inc., Carlisle Power Transmis-sion Products, Citizens Mem-orial Healthcare, Financial Network, Fort Scott Commun-ity College, Fortner Graphic Solutions, Galamba Metal Groups, Henry Kraft, Inc., Insite Support Services, Kansas Department of Commerce, MedPlans, Missouri Career Center, Murphy Family Ven-tures, Nevada Daily Mail/Fort Scott Tribune, Nevada In-surance Agency, Nevada Re-gional Medical Center, Oxford Healthcare, Prime America Financial Services, Prime Inc., SKILLS Unlimited, State Farm/Assurant Health, Topco Laminates Corp. and Ward/Kraft.
"The response we have gotten about the job fair has been very exciting," Beerbower said. "We have a variety of employers from multiple counties signed up to participate. All of our employers are excited to offer O'Sullivan employees an opportunity. We know the difference this event could make to people. We encourage anyone looking for a job to stop in, visit with employers and sign up for one of many door prizes." All proceeds from the event will be used to purchase door prizes, such as groceries, gift cards and gas cards for fair attendants. Door prizes will be given away every hour.
Employers are encouraged to bring door prizes as well. All advertising is being donated by the Nevada Daily Mail/Nevada News, KNEM/KNMO Radio and the Lamar Democrat. Sponsors hope to make the job fair an annual community event.
There is still time for employers to sign up. The Nevada Daily Mail/Nevada News will continue taking booth spaces until 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, or until spaces are filled. With the support of sponsors, organizers have been able to keep registration fees low. An 8-by10 foot booth is $50. An 8-by-20-foot booth is $100. All booths are professionally set up with a skirted table, back drop and chairs. Employers may set up Friday, June 29 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. or Saturday starting at 7:30 a.m. Interested employers should contact Tabatha Beerbower, special projects manager, Rust Communications MOKS, at (417) 667-3344 or tbeerbower@fstribune.com.
