Dortha Gertrude Payton, 79, Milo, Mo., died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada. She was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Peculiar, Mo., to John Robert Stone and Susie Gertrude Meighern Stone. She was married April 16, 1949, in Osceola, Mo., to Edgar Earl Payton Sr. and he preceded her in death March, 1989.

Mrs. Payton was reared in Vernon and Cedar County, Mo., and lived virtually her entire life in this area. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nevada. She was a homemaker and did babysitting in her home for many years. She was a very devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a friend to all that knew her.

Survivors include four sons, Earl Payton Jr. and his wife Lynn, Charleston, Ill., Tommy Payton and his wife Norma, Nevada, David Payton and his wife Margaret, Milo and George Payton, Wichita, Kan.; one daughter, Betty Slater and her husband, Danny, Polo, Mo.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Tim Stone and his wife Peggy, Joplin; three sisters, Bessie Bradley, Little Rock, Calif., Mickey Vandenberg and Pearl Kimzey, both of Nevada; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, four brothers, one sister and one grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 18, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with pastor Dennis Mix officiating. Interment will follow at Moore Cemetery, Nevada.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening between 7-8 p.m.
