Coroner releases autopsy report on Meyer's death
The death of Amy Meyer, 45, was ruled a suicide by the Greene County Medical Examiner's office according to spokesman Tam Vandeberg.
"She had a high level of diphenhydramine (commonly known as Benadryl) and isopropyl alcohol in her system," Vandeberg said. "She died of an overdose. The amount of Benadryl alone was enough to kill her. All the circumstances indicate it is a suicide."
Vandeberg said that while the use of isopropyl alcohol is not common it is not unheard of.
"We don't see it a lot but we do see it from time to time," Vandeberg said. "Isopropyl alcohol is very rough on the body when ingested and it increases the effect of the Benadryl."
Meyer's car was discovered July 9 after it had been parked in a Springfield Wal-Mart parking lot for several days.
Meyer's body was later discovered in the back seat of the car, covered up by several items. The medical examiner estimated that Meyer had been dead for 10-14 days prior to being found.
Meyer was not immediately identified because of the condition of the body and the medical examiner used dental records to make the identification.
The Daily Mail reported July 3 that Meyer was last heard from when she left for Springfield on June 26. She was reported missing by Nevada resident Barry Clark, 46, on June 30, after last reported contact with family members on June 26.
