Nevada R-5 welcomes new teachers
Dr. Warren Lovinger, along with other members of the school board, join Nevada R-5 administrators in welcoming new teachers into the district at an orientation breakfast meeting Friday. Teachers spent the day in workshops in preparation for the arrival of students tomorrow. The president of the Nevada R-5 Community Teachers Association says teachers are prepared for a strong start this fall. Amy Ast, president of the local chapter of the Missouri State Teachers Association, said the group is looking forward to the challenges of the coming year. "We're excited to embrace our new teachers and continue the support of our returning staff. We want them all to know how much we appreciate their dedication and commitment to the children in our community." Ast, who is a speech implementor at Benton Elementary and Nevada Middle School will be assisted this year by the following officers:
Tammy Hendren, president elect; Traci Cliffman, secretary; and Cindy Bullard, treasurer. Area educators will have the opportunity to add to their teaching and leadership skills through a wide variety of MSTA-sponsored programs. The Missouri State Teachers Association is the leading education association in the state, with more than 150 years of service to Missouri educators and more than 44,000 members. MSTA headquarters is located in Columbia, and its regional offices are in Kansas City, Springfield, Cape Girardeau and Jefferson City.
