Morrow, Marsh fare well once again

Saturday, September 1, 2007

A little extra excitement gave the fans a scare as a Factory Stock race car lost a wheel last Saturday night, which bounced into the grandstand area at Nevada Speedway.

Saturday night, the Pro 4s visited the track, along with the Labor Day Special races.

Also coming in the next few weeks will be another visit from the Legend cars and the URLA cars will race at the Biggest Little Racetrack in the country later this season.

And, don't forget the season championship in two weeks.

There's still plenty of action and racing, which will continue after the championship.

LATE MODEL

Heat race winners were Jack Simmons of Erie, Kan., and Donnie Timmerman, El Dorado Springs.

Brett Lafollette and Bill Humble Jr., started the race going side by side all around the track for several laps with Jack Simmons waiting in the back to jump into the lead when one of them pulled ahead of the other.

Brett Lafollette gained the lead and held off Simmons for a lap until Simmons could pull off the pass.

Bill Lafollette went spinning, bringing out a yellow flag and closing the field behind Simmons for the restart.

Humble brought out another yellow flag as he ended up on the top of the track with sheet metal hanging. Simmons was again in the lead for the restart. Ed Alig went spinning into the retaining tires and another yellow flag flew.

Once again Simmons led the field to the green flag. Ron Bolin, starting dead last, had worked his way through the field into fifth place when he went high on the track and had problems.

Simmons held off a strong challenge from Brett Lafollette to claim his eighth win of the season.

MODIFIED

Heat race winners were Kevin Morrow and Bob Kerbs both from Nevada.

Brian Hall gained the lead at the start of the Feature. Brian Bolin had problems, which caused him to pull into the infield. This closed the field behind Hall for the restart.

On the restart Kerbs gained the lead. Jack Williams stalled, bringing out the yellow flag and closing the field behind Kerbs for the restart. Tim North, Jr. spun, bringing out another yellow and closing the field behind Kerbs once again.

On the restart Kerbs and Morrow were side by side for a couple laps before Morrow was able to pull ahead. Morrow maintained the lead and captured his sixth win of the season.

STREET STOCK

Heat Race winners were Kenny Shaw of Fort Scott and Eddie Fox of Girard.

Zach Marsh jumped into the lead at the start of the Feature. A yellow flew as Preston Wescoat when spinning collecting Joey Thornburg and Zach Zeugin. Marsh was in the lead for the restart. Andy Skaggs went spinning, bouncing through the infield and bringing out the yellow flag. Once again Marsh led the field to the green. Marsh maintained the lead through the balance of the race to claim the win, his eighth of the season.

FACTORY STOCK

Heat race winners were Shawn Hendren, Nevada, and Cody Elnicki, Girard.

Mark Selsor got the lead at the start of the Feature.

Mark Godsey, Hendren and Elnicki chased him down and the battle was on for the lead.

Darren Dennison went spinning which brought out the yellow flag and closed the field behind Selsor for the restart.

A red flag flew as one of the cars lost a tire, which bounced into the grandstand area and track officials checked out the situation.

Selsor led the field to the green flag. Another yellow flew as Chris Hendren went sliding into the retaining tire.

Selsor again was in the lead for the restart. Elnicki jumped into the lead on the restart and never looked back as he claimed the win, his seventh of the season.

MINI-STOCK

The heat-race winner was Scott Mohlfeld of Liberal.

Jerry Wilson got the lead at the start of the Feature.

Brice Elnicki gained the lead only to way high in the corner allowing Wilson to reclaim the position.

Mohlfeld and Brent Knight chased down Wilson. Mohlfeld tried to pass on the high side and Knight on the inside but Wilson held them off. Terry Hallam coasted to a stop on the track which brought out the yellow flag and closed the field behind Wilson for the restart.

Knight again tried the inside of the track trying to push Wilson up the track a little and this backfired as Knight went into the wall.

Wilson was again in the lead for the restart with Mohlfeld right behind him.

As the green flew Wilson and Mohlfeld left the field behind with Mohlfeld again trying to pass on the outside of the track.

Wilson crowded Mohlfeld up the track a little and he scraped the wall, sending sparks flying as he assumed the lead and then left the field behind.

Mohlfeld claimed the win, his eighth of the season.
