Sheriff's Vehicle involved in weekend crash
While on an emergency call, a Vernon County Sheriff's deputy, Clinton D. Berry, collided with a van driven by Jennifer L. Crews, at the intersection of Washington and Hickory streets, Sunday, at approximately 10:40 a.m according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, which investigates crashes involving law enforcement vehicles. The deputy had the emergency lights and siren activated while westbound on Hickory Street when he crossed Washington and struck the northbound van, which careened into the yard of a nearby home. Three people from the van were taken by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center: Crews, 24, Nevada; Colton Crews, 5, Nevada; Gary Drake, 43, Nevada, with moderate injuries. The deputy was taken by private vehicle to NRMC with minor injuries. Vernon County Sheriff Ron Peckman said the deputy is doing well. "He's doing fine," Peckman said. "The doctor wanted him to take a few days off but he wanted to come in anyway. I told him to take it easy, he'd start hurting pretty soon. He did come in and fill out a report but he'll be off the next few days." Updates on the condition of the others involved in the crash were not available this morning.
