On August 31, 2007, after more than 30 years of dedicated service, Chief Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer John M. Adams retired as an employee of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Adams began his career with the Highway Patrol on March 1, 1977, as a commercial vehicle enforcement officer and was assigned to the scale house along Interstate 44 in Jasper County. He was promoted to the rank of supervisor I in January 1995 and to supervisor II in August 1997. In February of 2004, he was promoted to the rank of chief and transferred from the scale house to the Troop D Service Center in Carthage, Mo.

Adams is originally from Seneca, Mo., graduating from Seneca High School in 1967. He graduated from Missouri Southern State University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He taught history and social studies and coached football and basketball in the Monett and Seneca school districts prior to becoming employed with the Highway Patrol. He has served as a school board member with the Seneca schools and is currently serving as a councilman with the City of Seneca. Adams is married to the former Tawni Graham of Jay, Okla.

Adams says he plans to spend as much time as possible fishing and playing golf. He will also work part-time for a casino in northeastern Oklahoma driving a golf cart carrying customers from the parking lot to the casino.

The employees of Troop D expressed best wishes to the Adamses as they begin this new chapter in their lives.
