Schell City quilt show winners announced
The 2007 Schell City Fall Festival quilt show was attended with 119 viewers.
Thirteen small quilts or wall hangings and 18 quilts were hung for showing. This years' Mayor's Choice award (by Schell City Mayor, Dale Haddix) went to Sarah McKinney for her "Trip Around the World" in pastel colors that she had made in 4-H this year. Sarah's quilt had received an award at the Vernon County Youth Fair and was picked to go to the Regional Fair in Springfield.
Ribbons were awarded according to the voting of the viewers. First place ribbon was awarded to Janice Hooten of Schell City, with a sampler quilt made this year. Janice had added free hand machine embroidery to the blocks set between the pieced ones. Second place ribbon went to Karliegh Conner of Walker for her bright colored Trip Around the World quilt that she made in 4-H this year. This quilt had gotten the Grand Champion award at the Vernon County Youth Fair and made a trip to the State Fair in Sedalia. Third place ribbon was awarded to Sharon Sanderson of Schell City who entered an embroidered quilt called Log Cabins.
In the small quilts and wall hangings category, first place went to P J Meggitt of Schell City for her crib size embroidered Sun Bonnet Sue quilt with pink sashing. Second place to Jeanie Watson of Schell City for a crib size origami folded flowers quilt. Third place went to Julianne Flagg of Schell City for her Grandma's Maze wall hanging.
The Schell-Osage Quilt Guild members made a quilt this summer to be given away in a drawing. The pattern chosen for this was Triple Irish Chain. Funds raised will be used to make quilts for needs of the community. The winner was Edna Davis of Schell City. The Schell-Osage Quilt Guild meets each month, on the fourth Tuesday evening, at 6:30, at the Schell City Christian Church.
